Description

GHRP-2 (Pralmorelin): GH Secretagogue for Research Use

GHRP-2 (pralmorelin, KP-102, D-Ala-D-2-Nal-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) is a synthetic six-amino-acid growth hormone secretagogue acting as an agonist of the ghrelin receptor GHS-R1a at both the hypothalamus and the pituitary. It holds a unique position in the GHRP family: in Japan, pralmorelin hydrochloride is an approved diagnostic agent, used as a stimulation test for adult and childhood growth hormone deficiency with a defined peak-GH cut-off. That regulatory history gives GHRP-2 one of the richest clinical-endocrinology literatures of any research secretagogue. LiveWell supplies it as a 10 mg lyophilized vial strictly for in-vitro laboratory research use only.

Chemical Information

  • Name: GHRP-2 (pralmorelin, KP-102, GPA-748)
  • CAS Number: 158861-67-7
  • Type: Synthetic hexapeptide GH secretagogue (research grade)
  • Sequence: D-Ala-D-2-Nal-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2
  • Molecular weight: approximately 817 g/mol
  • Mechanism: GHS-R1a agonist at hypothalamus and pituitary; also stimulates ACTH and cortisol release in published testing
  • Vial size: 10 mg lyophilized powder
  • Purity: ≥99% (HPLC, third-party tested)

Why Researchers Study GHRP-2

1. The only approved GHRP. Pralmorelin’s diagnostic approval in Japan produced standardized human stimulation-test data: the severe adult GH deficiency cut-off is a peak GH of 9 ng/mL or lower on the GHRP-2 test.

2. Pituitary axis research. The 2022 J Endocr Soc series reported that the ACTH response during a GHRP-2 test screens for secondary adrenal insufficiency with 83% sensitivity and 88% specificity, extending the compound beyond the GH axis.

3. GHRH-independent GH release. Long-term GHRP-2 treatment in the GHRH knockout mouse demonstrated GH stimulation independent of GHRH, a foundational result for the two-receptor model of GH regulation studied with CJC-1295 with DAC and Sermorelin on the GHRH side.

4. Comparative secretagogue research. GHRP-2 sits between GHRP-6 (the founding compound) and Hexarelin (the most potent) in the classic hexapeptide series, making the three a standard panel in GHS-R1a assays.

Published Clinical Literature (Research Reference)

For context only. These are findings from the Japanese clinical endocrinology literature and academic laboratories. These are results cited from peer-reviewed sources; they are not claims about LiveWell’s research-grade material.

  • GHRH knockout mouse (Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab, 2005): long-term GHRP-2 stimulated GH independent of GHRH signaling.
  • Diagnostic test review (Eur J Endocrinol, 2007): evaluates the GHRP-2 test as a candidate standard for GH deficiency testing.
  • Pediatric series (J Pediatr Endocrinol Metab, 2010): median peak GH 3.39 vs 25.10 mcg/L in GH-deficient versus non-deficient children, with a sensitivity-specificity crossover near 15 mcg/L.
  • Preoperative pituitary series (Endocr J, 2020): GHRP-2 peak GH values reflected hypopituitarism severity and predicted postoperative recovery in non-functioning pituitary adenomas.
  • Adrenal screening (J Endocr Soc, 2022): an ACTH response of 1.55-fold or greater during the GHRP-2 test screened for secondary adrenal insufficiency with 83% sensitivity and 88% specificity.
  • Regulatory: approved in Japan as pralmorelin hydrochloride for diagnostic GH stimulation testing; not approved in the US or EU; prohibited in sport by WADA.

Storage & Handling

  • Store lyophilized vials refrigerated at 2 to 8°C, protected from light and heat

Frequently Asked Questions

What is GHRP-2?

GHRP-2 (pralmorelin, KP-102, CAS 158861-67-7) is a synthetic hexapeptide agonist of the ghrelin receptor GHS-R1a, and the only GHRP with a regulatory approval anywhere: a diagnostic approval in Japan for GH deficiency testing. We supply it as a 10 mg lyophilized vial strictly for in-vitro laboratory research.

Is GHRP-2 approved anywhere?

Yes, in Japan, where pralmorelin hydrochloride is approved as a growth hormone stimulation test agent for diagnosing GH deficiency. It has no therapeutic approval in any country and is not approved in the US or EU.

How does GHRP-2 differ from GHRP-6 and Hexarelin?

All three are GHS-R1a hexapeptides. GHRP-6 is the founding compound of the family, Hexarelin is the most potent GH releaser and adds CD36 binding, and GHRP-2 is the one that reached regulatory approval as a diagnostic, giving it the largest standardized human dataset.

How does GHRP-2 differ from Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is noted in the literature for GH selectivity with minimal cortisol and prolactin response. GHRP-2 produces a stronger GH response but also stimulates ACTH and cortisol, a property the Japanese literature has turned into an adrenal screening application.

What is the GHRP-2 test cut-off?

In the Japanese diagnostic framework, a peak GH of 9 ng/mL or lower during the GHRP-2 test indicates severe adult growth hormone deficiency. Cited for research reference only.

What purity is LiveWell GHRP-2, and is a COA included?

Every batch is third-party tested at ≥99% purity by HPLC, with mass spectrometry identity confirmation and LAL endotoxin testing. The batch Certificate of Analysis is published on our COA page the day the pre-order batch is released.

How should GHRP-2 be stored and reconstituted?

Store the lyophilized vial refrigerated at 2 to 8°C, protected from light and heat. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water; reconstituted material has a considerably shorter storage window.

How do pre-orders work, and when will it ship?

Pre-orders are charged at checkout and ship in the order received once the first batch clears third-party testing and the COA is published. You will receive tracking the day it ships. If you change your mind before shipment, contact us for a full refund.

Is GHRP-2 a drug or supplement in the United States?

No. In the United States GHRP-2 is not approved by the FDA for any use. The research-grade material sold by LiveWell is not a drug product, dietary supplement, food or cosmetic, and it is not intended for human or animal consumption.
